Guatemala

For the past three years I have done a ministry trip to Guatemala in the month of July. The Lord has knit my heart with a pastor named Otoniel Morales who lives with his wife, Ilma, and three daughters in the village of El Rosario. In 2004 I did a large women’s conference in the city of Gualan. Then in July 2005 I did a men’s conference in the city of Zacapa.

Here's a pic of me in Guatamala with a group of children...

There is a huge need in Guatemala to address the issue of abuse and domestic violence. Women are often attacked and raped in the streets. Some are kidnapped and killed. And many women are prisoners in their own homes, beaten regularly by alcoholic husbands. The problem has become so serious that the government has come up with a new word for the epidemic: femicida (which means “genocide of women.”)

I am asking God for a clear strategy on how I can serve the Latin American church to solve this problem. Pastor David Cannistraci and I are considering doing a pastors’ conference next fall where we can train and disciple leaders.
